Enemy at the Gates is a 2001 war film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, , starring Jude Law and Ed Harris set during the Battle of Stalingrad in World War IIThe film's title is taken from William Craig's 1973 nonfiction book Enemy at the Gates: The Battle for Stalingrad, which describes the events surrounding the Battle of Stalingrad from 1942 to 1943. It is based on a duel mentioned in the book that developed between Soviet sniper Vassili Zaitsev  and his rival, Major Erwin König, as they stalk each other during the battle. The movie is also partially based on the book War of the Rats. The film was released under the title Stalingrad in continental Europe, the summary of the movie was Nazi and Russian armies hurl rank after rank at each other and the world fearfully awaits the outcome of the battle of Stalingrad, the celebrated Russian sniper Vassili Zaitsev quitely stalks his enemies one men at a time,soon thrust him into a dual with the Nazi's best sharpshooter Major Erwin König and the to of them find their selves waging an intense personal war while the most momentous of the age are around them.The people that watch this movie have a positive feedback But most of all, "Enemy at the Gates" is about one of filmdom's best and most original confrontations between military protagonist and antagonist, and bringing the viewer into the experiences of World War II's most dynamic battle.
